Madeleine McCann's parents share heartbreaking 21st birthday message | 72CTMQY | 2024-05-12 11:08:01
Kate and Gerry McCann said they are 'still looking' and still miss their toddler Madeleine, in a message to mark her 21st birthday today.
In a heartbreaking statement shared to their official campaign to find her, they said: 'Happy 21st birthday Madeleine.
'Still missing. Still missed. Still looking.'
Madeleine went missing when she was three years old, while the family were on holiday in Praia da Luz in the Algarve, Portugal on May 3, 2007.
Since then, the case has become one of the highest profile missing person cases ever, with still no resolution.
Thousands of people responded to the new post on the Official Find Madeleine Campaign page on Facebook, wishing her a happy birthday.
'Forever hoping and praying that Madeleine will be returned to her loving family … Happy Birthday sweet Madeleine xx', one comment read.
It comes a week after her parents spoke out to mark the 17th anniversary of her disappearance.
They said her 'absence still aches' in a message posted to the same page, writing: 'It's 17 years since Madeleine was taken from us.
'It's hard to even say that number without shaking our heads in disbelief.
'Whilst we are fortunate in many ways and able to live a relatively normal and enjoyable life now, the "living in limbo" is still very unsettling. And the absence still aches.'
The couple added: 'Your support continues to encourage us and bolsters our strength to keep going. We know the love and hope for Madeleine and the will to find her, even after so many years, remains, and we are truly thankful for that.
'Thank you again for remembering Madeleine and all missing children.'
It comes just a few weeks after a new book on the missing tot claimed she is dead and pointed to the place her remains are 'very likely hidden'.
Portuguese publisher Modocromia launched the near-800-page book with 'photos and maps' on May 2.
The Lisbon-based firm says it is keeping the name of the author under wraps for the time being and is only referring to him as a 'foreign detective'.
The English-speaking investigator has given a bizarre interview ahead of the book's official presentation, wearing sunglasses and a black hoodie with the word 'Truth' emblazoned on the front.

Madeleine, from Rothley in Leicestershire, vanished from the family's holiday apartment after she was left sleeping along with her younger twin siblings while her parents ate at a tapas bar 120 metres away.

The prime suspect in Madeleine's disappearance is currently on trial in Germany charged with unrelated sex offences, allegedly committed in Portugal between 2000 and 2017.
The 47-year-old German, only known as Christian B because of the country's strict privacy laws, spent many years in Portugal – including in Praia da Luz around the time of Madeleine's disappearance.
