Ange Postecoglou insists Tottenham will 'have a crack' at Manchester City despite the fact a positive result against Pep Guardiola's side could hand Arsenal the Premier League title.

Man City are two wins away from a record fourth successive Premier League title after they thumped Fulham 4-0 on Saturday afternoon to move above Arsenal at the top of the table.

The Gunners will return to the summit if they beat Manchester United on Sunday, but the title remains in City's hands as they have a game in hand – against Tottenham on Tuesday night – before the final day of the season.

Spurs fans have mixed feelings ahead of the Man City clash as while a win would keep their Champions League hopes alive following Saturday's victory over relegated Burnley, it would also give Arsenal a huge boost in the title race.

If City drop points at Tottenham and Arsenal win their remaining two games – against United and Everton – Mikel Arteta will likely get his hands on the Premier League trophy due to their superior goal difference.

Looking ahead to Spurs' penultimate game of the season, Postecoglou said:'We've still got six points to play for, that's the key thing for us.

'We've got a big game on Tuesday night against Man City, that'll be a great test for us. Then we've got Sheffield United away so let's see where we can get to and where we end up playing our football.'

Asked if he believes Spurs have what it takes to defeat the reigning Premier League champions, Postecoglou added: 'I think we've got what it takes to make a game of it and play our football and see where it takes us.

'They're an outstanding them. Them and Arsenal are the benchmark [in the Premier League] right now, they're 20-odd points ahead of us so we've got some ground to make up.

'But it's at our place, it's 95 minutes of football and we're going to have a crack.'

Spurs have largely impressed in Postecoglou's first season in the Premier League, though four successive defeats prior to the Burnley win may cost them a place in the Champions League.

Tottenham are four points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa ahead of their final two games against Man City and relegated Sheffield United. Villa, meanwhile, face Liverpool on Monday and Crystal Palace on the final day.

'For us this was always going to be a year of building and it always unlikely we would get through it unscathed [with injuries],' Postecoglou said.

'We've stayed competitive in the league and always tried to play our football. We've got two games to go and we want to finish strong.'

Asked about his hopes of making the top four, the Australian added: 'It's about being the best we can be.

'Irrespective of where we finish it is important that we strengthen in the off season and I know the players who have been through this year will come back strongly.'

Tottenham beat Burnley on Saturday (Picture: Getty)

Tottenham trailed Burnley following Jacob Bruun Larsen's first-half opener but equalised through Pedro Porro before Micky van de Ven scored an 82nd-minute winner to send Burnley down.

On the impact of Dutch defender Van de Ven, Postecoglou added: 'He's not a bad player is he? He's outstanding and that's the exciting thing for me – it is his first year in Premier League football.

'Same with Destiny [Udogie], Pape Sarr and [Guglielmo] Vicario, too. We have so much growth in this team and Micky is at the forefront of that.

'I can't think of too many players who have made such an impact in their first year of Premier League football, and knowing he only really had one year in the Bundesliga. It's not like he's a seasoned professional.

'He has had a few injury problems but when he's played he has been outstanding.'

Tottenham captain Bethany England will lead her team out at Wembley on Sunday for the club's first women's FA Cup final.

The England striker had a trophy-laden career at Chelsea before making the move across London last year and now she is determined to help Spurs lift the FA Cup for the first time by beating Manchester United.

England, who also won the European Championship with the Lionesses in 2022, hopes her experience can be a crucial factor in turning Spurs into trophy winners.

Ahead of the final, she talks silverware, becoming a leader on and off the pitch and enabling her club to believe they can 'achieve bigger and better things'.

You won a lot of silverware with Chelsea but what is it like now being on the brink of clinching a first women's FA Cup for Spurs?

I just want to win everything. I want to be the best I can be at what I do and I want my team to succeed.

There are different meanings behind winning at both clubs. For me, I'll never forget winning my first FA Cup at Wembley, especially with a team like Chelsea.

It was what most people dream of and to be in a position now where I could lead a team out with the captain's armband at a sold-out Wembley, potentially raising some silverware the club has never had for the women's side – and where it's been a long time since the men's side won any either.

We know it would be a huge moment, a monumental occasion for the club and it would be something that I would very much treasure for the rest of my career.

What's it been like as captain of Spurs this season and does it come naturally to you to take a leadership role on and off the pitch?

I'm a very strong character in that I hold my beliefs, my values, very highly. I've always spoken out on things I believe in, both in football and life.

As we grow older, we gain more experience. I've become more confident in speaking up. It gets to a point where I think you live so many experiences that you just kind of want to help people.

The captaincy role is not something I ever saw myself having and I was quite shocked when I got asked to take on that role. I've learned a lot about myself and the skill set I have or that I've picked up.

I'm a very caring, personable person, my values and my beliefs on fairness and everyone having a voice but not just being able to speak up but to be heard as well. And I think a lot of that comes into the leadership of trying to lead the team, making sure that everyone feels valued.

Everyone has a key role to the success of that team. And not only that but also link into it off the pitch. I feel like everyone does have a voice and if mine can help ignite some confidence in someone else to speak up and use their voice, then why would I not want to do that?

Because ultimately, I would just love it if everyone's in a safe, happy, healthy environment. Obviously, that is not the world we live in today. But the more people that can advocate for these situations, the better.

How do you think the move from Chelsea to Tottenham has developed you as a person and a player?

I learned a lot there. I worked with a lot of different people from different countries and learned different styles of play.

And in a way I feel like I learned so much without realising what I've learned until you need to use those experiences. I've been around such amazing leaders, not just at Chelsea but England as well, and being able to take that into Spurs has been massive.

I can use those skills to help the team's mentality, to be able to want to win more and do more. And believe in ourselves that we can achieve bigger and better things.

Bukayo Saka has revealed Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium is his favourite ground to play at.

Arsenal face the Red Devils on Sunday knowing only a win will do if they are to retain even an outside chance of ending their 20-year wait for the Premier League title.

The Theatre of Dreams has been anything but a happy hunting ground for the north London club in recent years with their only win since 2006 coming four years ago when no fans were in attendance.

Saka does, at least, have some fond memories of United's home having registered an assist during a breakthrough performance when Unai Emery was still in charge.

The 22-year-old also scored against United in last season's 3-1 defeat while he registered his first England hat-trick at the same venue in last year's thrashing of North Macedonia.

'Growing up watching football, because I love football, I've been watching football for years,' the Arsenal winger told Sky Sports.

'The special nights you've seen in the Preimer League and in the Champions League at Old Trafford. It was nice to be on the pitch and to play.

'I've played there a few times now and it's definitely my favourite stadium to play in.'

Despite his relatively tender age, Saka currently ranks as one of the more experienced players in Mikel Arteta's emerging young team.

The Arsenal manager has relied heavily on the Hale End Academy graduate again this term, but Saka is more than comfortable with accepting extra responsiblity.

'It's just the hunger to win that keeps me going,' he told Arsenal's official website. 'That's why I keep getting up. It's part of it.

'I feel like I'm physically much stronger than I was four or five years ago. I've got more experience now, in terms of knowing which tackles to go through and which ones to jump. I try to avoid the big tackles, so I think I'm much smarter now as well as being more physical.

'I'm just trying to play the game, do what the game takes. If I stay on the floor then it can disrupt the momentum we've built up in the team, so I just try to get on with it.

'Yes, he told me that the elite players all do that, so if I want to be at that level too then I need to be ready to play that many games.

'I need to try and help my team in all of those games too. It's big numbers, but it's achievable. You see the best players in the world doing it, so I believe I can do it as well.'

Chelsea must sign 'big name' up front to support Nicolas Jackson, says Alan Shearer | 24F596N | 2024-05-12 16:08:01

Alan Shearer says Nicolas Jackson is not ready to be a guaranteed starter for Chelsea and believes the club need to sign a 'big name' up front in the summer transfer window.

Jackson struck late on as Chelsea overcame Nottingham Forest in an entertaining 3-2 victory on Saturday, with Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling also on the scoresheet at the City Ground.

The Blues' last away win in the Premier League came way back on February 12, when Mauricio Pochettino's men beat Crystal Palace 3-1 in an all-London affair at Selhurst Park.

Jackson's 82nd-minute winner took his goal tally to 14 in what has been a mixed debut season for the forward in the English top flight following a £32million transfer move from Villarreal last summer.

The Senegal international has shown glimpses of his undoubted quality across the campaign and Shearer – the Premier League's all-time record goalscorer – feels Chelsea have a player with 'big potential'.

However, the legendary ex-Newcastle, Blackburn and England striker believes Jackson will benefit in the long-term if Chelsea bring in a No.9 with proven pedigree ahead of next season.

'I think his performance summed up his season. Some really good bits and some poor bits,' Shearer said on Match of the Day.

'He's definitely raw but there is big potential there. He's good at running with the ball, his runs in behind are really intelligent but little things like this [misplacing a pass in the final third], making simple decisions, when and how to pass that ball.

'Sometimes the easiest ones are the most difficult ones to do.

'It's that final thing where he's got to brush up on and get in behind.'

Jackson has scored 14 league goals in his debut season with the Blues (Picture: Getty)

Shearer added: 'He's 22 years of age, 29 starts, 14 goals… I think that's a decent return.

'It's been a little unfair on him at times because he needed to be left out but couldn't because of the lack of numbers in that squad.

'He'll learn, get better, they will bring someone in, I'm sure.'

Asked whether Chelsea need to sign another No.9, Shearer replied: 'Yeah they do need another No.9 because he's not ready to be a regular there.

'He's had to put up with that this season and that's why we're picking up little bits on him where his game can improve.

'But another No.9 in there, a big name that he can work alongside and work with, he'll get better. I'm sure of it.

Chris Waddle was in agreement with Shearer as he rated Jackson's performance on BBC Radio 5 Live, arguing that Chelsea must sign a goalscorer if they are to be in the mix for the top four next season.

Chelsea have got ability and some very good players,' Waddle said after the side's defeat of Forest.

'There is a lot of players you can build around next season, but they definitely need a goal scorer.

'If they get a centre forward you will see Chelsea pushing for the top four next season. They just shaded it tonight.

'But Chelsea have got to sort it out next season. They have got some class players and sometimes they do play too slow.

'They are going the right way, but the top four is a long way off.'

Donny van de Beek's agent claims that Manchester United are not willing to sell the midfielder to another Premier League club this summer.

The 27-year-old joined United in a £40 million deal from Ajax in 2020 but has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford and is now expected to leave on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

Van de Beek has spent the second half of this campaign on loan with Eintracht Frankfurt but the midfielder has been unable to secure a regular place in the team and the Bundesliga side are not taking up their option to buy for £9.5m.

Guido Albers, Van de Beek's agent, has ruled out a possible return to Ajax this summer and is now targeting a move to La Liga, Serie A or Ligue 1 as United are not entertaining offers from rival Premier League sides.

When asked about being reunited with Van de Beek after their split in October 2021, Albers said on ESPN's Goedemorgen Eredivisie on Sunday: 'I think that's wonderful, he has been away from me for a while.

'For me it is a very nice moment in his career to pick it up again. We said together, 'back to basics'.

'He's lost that a bit in recent years. He is hungry and eager to please. I came to an agreement with Frankfurt for him. Frankfurt still had an option until June 30, which they will not exercise. Officially he is now going back to Manchester United and I am now in discussions with him.

'Donny does not want to stay in the Premier League, also because United do not want that. That is not a good choice for him. He needs to return to a club that plays good football. In any case, he will not return to Ajax.

'My preference was to look in Spain, Italy or France. If I could get him in Spain or Italy that would be fantastic, at a club where he will play as a No.10 like he played at Ajax.

'You see that the Dutch are successful in a certain way in Spanish or Italian football.

'He was very close to a transfer to Real Sociedad last summer. That was cancelled at the last minute because Erik ten Hag wanted to keep him until the last minute. Then he ended up at Frankfurt.'

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe played down injury concerns for both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson after the former was taken off early and the latter missed out completely against Brighton on Saturday.

The Magpies were held to a 1-1 draw with the Seagulls at St James' Park, after Joel Veltman put the visitors ahead and Sean Longstaff equalised.

There was concern before the contest after Wilson was not in the squad and Howe was a little vague on what the problem is with the England striker.

'Just feeling not 100 per cent today. A little of tightness, it's not an injury as such,' the boss said before the game.

Howe added after the draw: 'Callum, also a little bit of illness and not feeling great in his body so hopefully he'll be back [at Manchester United].'

Newcastle go to Old Trafford on Wednesday night and Howe is also hopeful that Isak will recover from a minor bout of illness, which saw him substituted with 25 minutes to play.

'Alex wasn't feeling very well yesterday so I took the decision to look after him with a three-game week in mind,' said Howe. 'You could see he wasn't at full tilt today.'

The Magpies remained sixth in the table with the draw and on course for a Europa League place next season.

Howe was not thrilled with the performance he saw from his players, but feels the point they picked up could be vital as they aim to finish in the top six.

'I don't think we hit the heights we needed to win it but, if anyone was going to, I thought it would be us,' Howe told BBC Sport.

'If you're not going to win the game, the draw for us is really important. I think it could be a valuable point for us.'

John Lundstram's red card in Rangers' defeat to Celtic on Saturday afternoon was labelled 'madness' on a day to forget for the Englishman.

Celtic won the game 2-1 and are now on the verge of winning the Scottish Premiership, six points clear of Rangers with two games to play.

However, they were given a helping hand by their opponents, and specifically Lundstram, who scored an own goal and was shown a red card before half-time.

Matt O'Riley gave Celtic the lead and Lundstram's calamitous own goal seemed to put the home side in a very strong position.

Cyriel Dessers headed Rangers back into contention on 40 minutes but a ridiculous lunge from Lundstram on Alistair Johnston left Celtic with 10 players for the entire second half.

Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon had sympathy for the Rangers manager, who he felt would be fuming with Lundstram for the 'madness' he displayed.

'If I'm Philippe Clement, I'm absolutely raging, 100 per cent,' Lennon told Sky Sports. 'He's an experienced player.

'They've done great to get back into the game against a top team. They've shown good mentality, the shape has been alright. It's madness.'

Clement remained pretty measured after the game but admitted that the red card cost the team and he did not expect to see that kind of decision from an experienced player.

'It makes a massive difference, of course,' he said. 'Lunny will be the first one to know that, but it's decision making, wrong decision making in that moment.

'He knows. But I don't forget all the good things he did the last couple of months for the team and the last couple of years for the club.

'So everybody makes mistakes, you don't expect from an experienced guy that mistake in this game but it is what it is and we have to move forward now.'

Brendan Rodgers is on the brink of a Scottish Premiership title with Celtic (Picture: Getty Images)

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was actually a bit frustrated that his team did not press home their advantage further, with a nervy ending to the contest.

'We made the game really tense at the end when there was no need for it to be,' he said.

'We're not over the line yet, but we're in a great place. We need to recover and look to finish the job on Wednesday.

'It's always the best team that wins after 38 games. We're not there yet, but the finish line is in touching distance.'
