Actor-director Fisher Stevens is the latest celebrity to leave the U.S. for the U.K.

The Succession star tells PEOPLE it was time to try out life in Europe

He doesn't say the move was politically motivated, but he isn't a fan of the Trump administration when it comes to environmental policies

Fisher Stevens is the next celebrity ditching the U.S. for life across the pond.

"I moved my family to London about eight weeks ago," he tells PEOPLE. The actor, who rose to fame in the '80s in films like Short Circuit then later with shows like Succession, is also the acclaimed director of documentaries like Netflix's Beckham series.

"We have a 12 and 9 year old, and my wife and I decided it was time to get out of the U.S. for a minute, see what it's like in Europe and the U.K.," he adds.

So far, he's loving it. "It's pretty nice! My wife [Alexis Bloom] and I make documentaries, so there are a couple things we're working out on there, and my wife's parents live in London too, so that's been good."

As for whether politics played a part in the relocation, he doesn't explicitly say, but he notes he's certainly not a fan of the current administration's policies when it comes to the environment.

"I did this movie with Leonardo DiCaprio Before the Flood, and we interviewed these major corporations in the Amazon, like Cargill, who promised to farm more sustainably, and things have not gotten any better. It's now 10 years later," he says, adding that's why he got involved in the new Amazon rainforest documentary We Are Guardians, now streaming on Netflix.

"It's more important than ever to keep shining a light on these stories," he says of the film, which is about deforestation and logging in the rainforest and the locals in Brazil who protect their ancestral home.

"Knowing that the Trump administration is very heavily funded by the fossil fuels ... I mean, the Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright is a former oil executive who refuses to [make change]. He says, 'Oh yeah, the climate is changing...' But this administration is doing everything it can to not be responsible citizens for the world."

Stevens isn't the only celebrity to leave the U.S. for the U.K. in the past year.

In 2024, PEOPLE learned that Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi had moved to the English countryside after finding a house the former talk-show host "loved." The pair now live in a farmhouse in the Cotswolds region, and DeGeneres confirmed reports that she and de Rossi made the move to live abroad permanently in response to Donald Trump's second presidency.

In March of 2025, Rosie O'Donnell also confirmed she'd left the U.S. for Ireland. "It's been heartbreaking to see what's happening politically and hard for me personally as well," she said as reasons for fleeing America. "The personal is political, as we all know."
