Sometimes a single image or a few notes of a song can send you hurtling back in time.
A recent Instagram post is sparking just such a wave of heartfelt nostalgia among '80s and '90s kids. The post, a tribute to a long-running classic sitcom, had fans swarming the comments section within seconds, remembering their favorite characters and humming along with one of TV's most unforgettable theme songs.
The classic show that has sent everyone on a trip down memory lane is none other than The Facts of Life, which first aired on NBC 46 years ago this Sunday.
A spin-off of another wildly popular sitcom, The Facts of Life followed Diff'rent Strokes housekeeper Edna Garrett (played by the late great Charlotte Rae) in a new role as housemother as she guided a group of teenage girls at the fictional Eastland School, a boarding school in Peekskill, New York.
Perfectly capturing the excitement of generations of fans, a popular '80s nostalgia Instagram account posted a short video of a woman looking up the air time for The Facts of Life in an old school TV catalogue before cutting to a vintage TV set playing the opening credits for The Facts of Life.

The comments section immediately lit up with fans sharing heartfelt memories about the effect the show had and continues to have on their lives.
"I still watch it in the mornings when I catch it on tv here," one user wrote.
"Just watched a few episodes last night," wrote another commenter. "I loved that show so much as a kid I remember crying - boohooing, during the finale."
A third fan had a very personal reason to hold the show in high regard. "That was one of my mom's favorite shows!" They commented, "I was born in 1982 and she named me after the character 'Natalie' 😊."
Yet another fan cheekily praised the theme song's power, commenting, "Why do I forget why I walked in the kitchen but can remember every single word to this theme song."
The Facts of Life was more than just a sitcom; it was a cultural touchstone that ran for an incredible nine seasons and 201 episodes. While it served up plenty of laughs, it was never afraid to get serious. The show evolved with its characters, following the core four girls and their mentor as they moved from the school cafeteria to running their own business together post-graduation.
The series also made television history. It prominently featured Geri Jewell, 68, as Blair's cousin Geri Tyler, making her the first actor with a disability to have a recurring role on a primetime series, according to Forbes.
Equally memorable was handsome handyman George Burnett, a role played by none other than a young, up-and-coming actor named George Clooney, 64.
According to the same Forbes article, Rae once said, reflecting on the show's legacy, "Everyone laughed at us; they made fun of us. Yet, we endured. We tackled serious issues. We handled everything appropriately. And we made a difference."
Seven years after the beloved star's death and over four decades after the iconic show's premiere, it is clear that The Facts of Life definitely made a difference, as fans new and old continue to celebrate its humor and heart.
