If you're super into the Man of Steel or call Papa Smurf your daddy, it's a big week for you, streaming fam.
James Gunn's summer hit "Superman" and the latest "Smurfs" adventure are a couple of the new movies hitting your favorite services like Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+, HBO Max and Hulu. There are theatrical releases finally ready to watch from your couch like Liam Neeson's "Ice Road" sequel, as well as original fare like a true-life dating app drama starring Lily James as the founder of Bumble.
Here are 10 new and notable movies you can stream right now:
'aka Charlie Sheen'
Charlie Sheen talks about his life, career and many issues in the documentary "aka Charlie Sheen."
The two-part documentary puts Charlie Sheen at a diner table and lets him riff on three things that define him: partying, partying that leads to problems, and just problems. Friends and family chime in but this is really Sheen's show revealing wild stories about his life, career (did you know he was up for "The Karate Kid"?) and celebrity infamy.
Where to watch: Netflix
'Elio'
Space fan Elio (voiced by Yonas Kibreab, left) finds himself on a cosmic misadventure where he bonds with eccentric aliens like Glordon (voice of Remy Edgerly), a tender-hearted princeling, in Pixar's animated "Elio."
With its latest original outing, Pixar throws back to the 1980s days of "Explorers" and "The Last Starfighter." A young boy (voiced by Yonas Kibreab) yearns to be abducted by aliens, actually gets his wish and becomes BFFs with a blobby alien. Best for a kid who's never seen "E.T."
Where to watch: Disney+
'Ice Road: Vengeance'
Liam Neeson (with Fan Bingbing) reprises his role as a heroic trucker in the action sequel "Ice Road: Vengeance."
Liam Neeson is now moonlighting as a "Naked Gun" guy but he's still rocking his action side, too. The sequel to his enjoyably over-the-top "The Ice Road" returns Leeson's heroic ice road trucker Mike McCann on a personal journey to Mount Everest, and while on deadly terrain, he has to save a tour bus full of passengers from pesky mercenaries.
Where to watch: Netflix
'Screamboat'
This horror flick isn't for the Disney adults. Thanks to the original version of Mickey Mouse now being in the public domain, Steamboat Willie has been turned into a murderous critter (played by David Howard Thornton, aka Art the Clown) who goes to town on victims riding a late-night ferry, including partygoers who could be mistaken for cartoon princesses.
Where to watch: Peacock
'Smurfs'
Ken (voiced by Nick Offerman, far left), Ron (Kurt Russell) and Papa Smurf (John Goodman) are brothers who can throw down in "Smurfs."
The latest incarnation of the little blue cartoon folks is an animated musical adventure with bouncy dance numbers and a plot involving the search for a Smurfnapped Papa Smurf (voiced by John Goodman). Rihanna voices Smurfette, who tries to help No Name (James Corden) find his special "thing," while Kurt Russell plays Papa Smurf's manly bro Ken.
Where to watch: Paramount+
'Superman'
Superman (David Corenswet) saves a young girl from exploded debris in "Superman."
The best screen Superman since the iconic Christopher Reeve, David Corenswet imbues his hero with joy and optimism in an enjoyable adventure that opens up the new DC universe in a big way. Kudos also to Nicholas Hoult for being an inspired choice for nervy and smarmy supervillain tech bro Lex Luthor.
Where to watch: HBO Max
'Swiped'
Lily James stars as Whitney Wolfe Herd, a co-founder of Tinder who went on to create Bumble in the drama "Swiped."
The true-life drama stars Lily James as Whitney Wolfe Herd, a self-made billionaire on the ground floor of Tinder's success. After being made a social media pariah, she has a comeback founding the female-forward dating app Bumble. A decent biopic with modern relevance as it explores toxic masculinity and tech-bro misogyny.
Where to watch: Hulu
'Warfare'
Will Poulter stars as a Navy SEAL captain who struggles to get his mind right after an IED explosion in "Warfare."
A crew of talented young movie stars (from Will Poulter to Joseph Quinn) play Navy SEALs caught in the middle of a harrowing standoff with Iraqi insurgents. Directors Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza, an ex-soldier whose experience was the basis for the film, put viewers through uncannily real and unflinchingly brutal moments.
Where to watch: HBO Max
'The Wedding Banquet'
Lily Gladstone, left, and Kelly Marie Tran in "The Wedding Banquet."
Two gay couples (Lily Gladstone and Kelly Marie Tran, plus Bowen Yang and Han Gi-Chan) hatch a marriage scheme for one pair to get a green card and the other to get money for infertility treatments. Their simple plan goes awry when one of their relatives wants a posh Korean wedding banquet in the heartfelt romantic comedy.
Where to watch: Paramount+
'The Wrong Paris'
Instead of going to France, Dawn (Miranda Cosgrove) signs up for a dating show and winds up back in her Texas hometown falling for cowboy bachelor Trey (Pierson Fodé) in the romantic comedy "The Wrong Paris."
In the romantic comedy, Dawn (Miranda Cosgrave) dreams of getting out of Paris, Texas, and going to art school in France. She signs up for a "Bachelor"-type dating show as a way to travel overseas but frustratingly ends up back in her hometown with cowboy Trey (Pierson Fodé) as the object of the contestants' affection.
