Emma Heming Willis grew noticeably emotional discussing her husband's dementia diagnosis in a new ABC special.
Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey airs August 26 on ABC.
Emma and Bruce have been married since 2009 and share two daughters.
Emma Heming Willis is opening up about her husband Bruce Willis's dementia symptoms in a new interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer. In a new clip previewed on Good Morning America today, Emma discusses how Bruce's "warm, affectionate" personality has changed since his diagnosis.
"It's his laugh, right? He has such a hearty laugh," Emma said of seeing "moments" of Bruce's old self. "And sometimes you'll see that twinkle in his eye, or that smirk. I just get transported."
"And it's just hard to see, because as quickly as those moments appear, then it goes," she continued.
Emma initially revealed that the Die Hard star had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023.
"Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis," she wrote on Instagram at the time.

In the same interview, Emma told Sawyer that she noticed changes in her husband's demeanor before he was diagnosed with FTD.
"For someone who was very talkative and very engaged, he was just a little more quiet," Emma shared. "He felt a little removed, very cold. Not like Bruce, who is very warm and affectionate. To go in the complete opposite of that was alarming and scary."
The British model also explained how she "panicked" after Bruce was given a diagnosis she "couldn't pronounce."
"I just remember hearing it and just not hearing anything else. It was like I was free-falling," Emma said.
Emma and Bruce, who have been married since 2009, share two daughters: Mabel and Evelyn. The Emmy nominee also has three daughters from his marriage to Demi Moore.
