The West Coast may soon face an invasion of a destructive pest that decimates forests and lowers property values. According to new research, the spongy moth, already thriving in the Northeastern U.S., is poised to wreak havoc on the West Coast forests due to global warming. Maps reveal that they've already infiltrated parts of Southern and Northern California. A January 6 study published in Nature warns that rising temperatures are fueling the spread of the spongy moth, whose scientific name is Lymantria dispar.
