Aston 'Family Man' Barrett, who was the bassist of Bob Marley and the Wailers, has died aged 77.
Saying his dying, Barrett's household stated he had suffered a 'lengthy medical battle' but gave no further details.
Taking to social media on Saturday, Barrett's son Aston Barrett Jr stated: 'With the heaviest of hearts, we share the information of the passing of our beloved Aston 'Familyman' Barrett after an extended medical battle.
'This morning, the world misplaced not simply an iconic musician and the spine of the Wailers but a exceptional human being whose legacy is as immense as his talent.
'Our family is asking for privateness during this difficult time, as words can't categorical our profound loss.'
Born in 1946, Barrett grew up in Jamaica's capital of Kingston.
His first musical success got here when he turned a member of the Upsetters, style pioneer Lee Perry's backing band.
He joined Bob Marley in 1974, and went on to play in a lot of the Wailers albums, that includes in most of the band's largest hits together with I Shot the Sheriff, Get Up Stand Up, Stir It Up, Jamming, No Lady, No Cry and Might You Be Beloved.

Barrett acquired his 'family man' moniker from being a bandleader, and it was stated to have been coined before he fathered 41 youngsters.
