Melanie Lynskey responded to an Instagram comment claiming she made between $200,000 and $300,000 per episode of Two and a Half Men.

“There is this insane idea that I made millions of dollars and it’s so ridiculous,” she said.

Lynskey shared how much she actually got paid for the show.

Melanie Lynskey is setting the record straight about her Two and a Half Men payday.

Lynskey, who played the stalker Rose on the first four seasons of the CBS sitcom, responded to an Instagram comment claiming that she made between $200,000 and $300,000 per episode.

“hey! Sorry, but this insane number is floating around on the internet and I must tell you how wrong it is,” she began. “I only did 63 out of 262 episodes of that show. I made literally one tenth of that stated number per episode.”

Lynskey explained that she “started at $20,000 with I believe a 5% raise each season,” but noted that “more than half of the episodes I did were in the first two seasons” of the show.

“The highest paycheck I got on the show was I think $43,000 for one episode in the final season,” she said of one of her myriad returns to the show. “This is before agents, managers, business [managers’] cuts, and taxes, so you take home around 50% of what you are paid.”

The Yellowjackets star clarified that she still feels warmly toward Two and a Half Men. “I was extremely grateful for the job and for the money, it allowed me to pay my small mortgage and pay bills and be able to work in indie movies and build a career,” Lynskey said. “But there is this insane idea that I made millions of dollars and it’s so ridiculous.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Warner Bros. TV, which produced Two and a Half Men, as well as representatives for CBS, which aired the show.

The Last of Us actress’ comment came beneath a video of fellow Two and a Half Men actor Holland Taylor telling the Alchemy With Anthony Mason podcast, “They never paid me very well on that show.” Lynskey said, “If Holland’s talking about it I’ll talk about it too.”

Taylor, who played the mother of Charlie Sheen’s protagonist on the series, said that the project paid her about the same amount as another show almost a decade prior. “I was paid on that show what I had made on a series like like eight years before or something,” she claimed. “I got four Emmy nominations and they never gave me a raise. They usually do, just as a courtesy. I loved a lot about that show, but they were not full of courtesies.”

In a 2025 documentary about Sheen, series colead Jon Cryer said that he made one-third of the Wall Street actor’s salary.

“The dictator of North Korea was a guy named Kim Jong-Il. He acted crazy all the time and thus got enormous amounts of aid from countries who were so scared of him that they would shovel money at him,” the Pretty in Pink actor said. “Well, that’s what happened here. [Sheen’s] negotiations went off the charts because his life was falling apart. Me, whose life was pretty good at that time, I got a third of that.”

Forbes reported that Sheen made $1.9 million per episode of Two and a Half Men, prior to his dismissal from the show in 2011. Two years later, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Cryer earned around $620,000 per episode after Ashton Kutcher replaced Sheen.
