Hurts is out for the season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Eagles and his agent, Nicole Lynn, announced that the quarterback has deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli , is clinically stable, and is expected to make a full recovery without long-term effects.
"I'm not a medical expert," Sirianni said. "I lean on our medical experts in every situation. I have full trust and full faith in them."
The questions followed Rapoport's report that Hurts remained in the hospital until 4 a.m. before Philadelphia's game against Jacksonville and played without having slept. The joint statement said specialists in London initially diagnosed superficial left calf vein thrombosis before further testing and monitoring confirmed the current diagnosis.
Sirianni emphasized the organization's concern for its players when discussing Hurts' participation.
"The health of our players is always at the forefront of our minds," Sirianni said. "We'll leave that up to the medical experts. We always care deeply about our players."
Those comments offered no additional details about the evaluations or clearance process before the London game. They reinforced Sirianni's position that specialists overseeing player care make medical decisions.
Hurts is receiving blood thinners and cannot participate in contact activities during treatment. The Eagles and Lynn expect he will be able to resume contact football once he is off the medication, though their statement did not provide a return timetable.
