A picture is worth a thousand words, but for the ladies of"America's Next Top Model,"there was so much more to say off camera.
"Reality Check: Inside America's Next Top Model," a new documentary series from Netflix, is pulling back the curtain on the glamorous — and equally chaotic — modeling reality competition series created by supermodelTyra Banks.
"I haven't really said much," Banks says in the documentary'sofficial trailer, released on Monday, Jan. 26. "But now it's time."
"America's Next Top Model," which debuted in 2003, followed a group of model hopefuls as they competed for fashion glory in cutthroat photo shoot competitions, as well as received mentorship from Banks. The reality series quickly became a staple of aughties pop culture with its high-stakes drama, scathing commentary and intense makeovers.
The show ran for 24 seasons from 2003-2018 and at its commercial height, "ANTM" had a global audience of over 100 million, according toNetflix. Banks briefly departed the series for its penultimate 2016-2017 season, which was hosted by British pop singerRita Ora.
But while "Top Model" opened a professional door for many of its contestants, the show's cast also gets candid on the toll that production took, citing instances of body shaming, racial insensitivities and inappropriate touching.
"It was very, very intense," Banks reflected. "But you guys were demanding it, and so we kept pushing more and more and more."
