Tom Petty's Shocking Death

The news of Petty's death due to cardiac arrest from an accidental drug overdose shocked the world in 2017. Suffering from extreme pain due to a hip fracture, Petty was taking extremely strong medication. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined Petty's cause of death was a "multisystem organ failure due to resuscitated cardiopulmonary arrest due to mixed drug toxicity," CNN reported. Other drugs, including fentanyl and oxycodone, were found in his system.

Petty's Most Misunderstood Song

It turns out that Petty felt his 1982 song "You Got Lucky" was the one that was misunderstood by fans. Guitar Player reported that Petty broke it down in an old issue of Musician Magazine, explainining that the song, which featured a cocky-sounding man telling his girl that she got lucky with him, was really a bit of a lyrical fake out.

The lyrics go "You better watch what you say/You better watch what you do to me/Don't get carried away/Girl, if you can do better than me/Go/Yeah, go/But remember/Good love is hard to find/Good love is hard to find/You got lucky, babe/You got lucky, babe/When I found you."

"That's a very insecure person saying that! But it's a very real emotion. I found it amusing, really, to sing that," Petty told the publication. "But some people said, 'God! The audacity!' Insecure people say things like that to protect themselves, to protect the real pain that they know is coming later."
