Betsy Wolfe joins the Broadway hit as Madeline Ashton beginning Jan. 16

Tickets for the musical, based on the 1992 film, are now on sale

Megan Hilty is saying goodbye to Death Becomes Her.

The two-time Tony Award-nominated actress will play her final performance as Madeline Ashton on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, before passing the baton to fellow Broadway favorite Betsy Wolfe, who joins the production later that month.

Wolfe, a Tony nominee herself for her powerhouse turn in & Juliet, will step into the role beginning Friday, Jan. 16.

Hilty originated the part of the glamorous, immortal Madeline in both the show's 2024 Chicago premiere and its Broadway run, earning her second Tony nomination, this time for Best Leading Actress in a Musical. She's been attached to the project since its early development in 2023.

Back in June, Hilty called her work in the musical "the most challenging and rewarding role" she has "ever taken on." At the time, she had to step away from the show for a four-week absence, to recover "from a vocal injury that only time can heal."

She returned to the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in July.

Based on Robert Zemeckis' beloved 1992 Universal Pictures dark comedy, Death Becomes Her has become a smash hit on Broadway, scoring 33 nominations across the 2024–2025 theater season — including 10 Tony nods — and delighting audiences with its drop-dead hilarious take on vanity and fame.

The show features an original score by Tony nominees Julia Mattison and Noel Carey, with a book by Tony nominee Marco Pennett. It's directed and choreographed by Tony winner Christopher Gattelli.
