John Travolta and his daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, are going to be spending plenty of quality time together, as it was recently announced that they are set to star in an upcoming film together called Black Tides.
Deadline reported on Monday, October 20, that John, 71, is set to star opposite Melissa Barrera in Black Tides. Meanwhile, Ella, 25, will appear in a key role in the thriller, which also includes Álvaro Mel and Dylan Torrell in the cast.
While Ella's casting has been announced, details about her role are not yet known.
Black Tides will follow a father (John) as he tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter (Barrera) and grandson (Torrell) during a sailing trip off the Spanish coast, according to the outlet. However, the trip takes a dark turn when a pod of rogue orcas attack their boat. As they embark in a battle with the killer whales, the family will need to lean on each other as they fight for survival.
Filming for the movie has already started with principal photography taking place in Gran Canaria, Spain.
"Shooting at sea is one of the hardest things you can do in film but the footage we're getting is stunning," producer Adrián Guerra told Deadline about the project, which is directed by Renny Harlin. "The cast has bonded in a way that's rare and powerful, and Renny's directing chops are on full display — balancing raw spectacle with real human emotion."

Black Tides marks Ella's fifth on-screen acting role. She previously appeared in the 2009 film Old Dogs and the 2019 movie The Poison Rosealongside her father, while her other acting credits include appearances in the upcoming films Get Lost and Nice People.
John shares Ella with his late wife, Kelly Preston, who died in 2020 at the age of 57 following her private battle with breast cancer. The couple also shared sons Jett and Benjamin, 14. Jett died at the age 16 in 2009 after he suffered a seizure during his family's vacation to the Bahamas.
It's no surprise that Ella is following in her parents' acting footsteps, as she previously opened up about her desires to act while speaking to People in 2023. At the time, she explained how much she enjoyed working with her dad on projects.
"I always jump at the opportunity to do something with my dad and we always have the most fun doing something together," she said at the time. "So, hopefully we'll do something soon again. Maybe another project or movie. I'm always up for that."
Not only does she love to act, but Ella is also passionate about music and has released several songs and an EP. "Ever since I was little, I've really loved singing and performing — whether it was acting, dancing, singing," she continued, telling the outlet that her dad was "really proud" of her musical aspirations.
