Derek Hough is so ready to be a dad — and has already created a touching gift for the baby he's expecting with wife Hayley Erbert.
The Dancing With The Stars judge opened up on social media about the couple's upcoming arrival and how the meaning of some songs have changed since he learned he was going to become a father.
In an Instagram story, Hough shared that he has always loved the band Switchfoot and their lyrics held deep meaning for him — but with a baby on the way, the words have taken on a new meaning. Now, he feels that the words are a message that he wants to share with his future child.
Hough went on to say that he was so inspired that he recorded a medley of three of his favorite songs from the group: "Dare You To Move," "This is Your Life," and "Meant to Be."
"Here's a little something from the heart: a medley of three of my favorite Switchfoot songs," Hough wrote on Instagram.

He continued, "I originally recorded this just for myself, kind of like a personal conversation in music form. Turning 40 , just reflecting. Over time, these lyrics have shifted in meaning for me, they went from being words I used to ask myself to something I now imagine singing to my future child."
He even recorded a music video for the project — although he admits it was never fully completed. Despite the unfinished product, Hough shared the video on social media so his fans could enjoy it too.
"I never got around to making a full video, but I woke up today and thought, 'Why not just share this raw clip?' It's a long one, so if you make it to the big finish at the end, you'll get the full vibe. Hope you enjoy it and sending lots of love on this beautiful Sunday!" Hough wrote.

Hough and Erbert announced they were expecting their first child together back in July and have since shared their immense joy about the upcoming addition to their family.
"I'm gonna be a dad...It's something I've been dreaming of for so long. I can't wait. I'm excited," Hough shared during a Good Morning America interview.
While the couple haven't shared the baby's gender or the exact due date, they have told fans that the little one will arrive sometime this year.
