Dawson's Creekactor Kerr Smith shared that he's in the process of writing a memoir that will delve into his time on the iconic series, which aired for six seasons until 2003.
People magazine reported that Smith, who began playing Jack McPhee during the second season of Dawson's Creek, gave fans some insight into the upcoming book in a September 25 Instagram upload. The post revealed that the title of the book is I Don't Want to Wait: My Journey on Dawson's Creek Without a Paddle.
"It's been a wild ride since Capeside. I'm writing a book that dives into my journey and all things Dawson's Creek — and I want to bring you along for it," read the caption of the post.
Smith also let his Instagram followers know they can "Subscribe to get behind-the-scenes updates and be the first to know when it's ready."

Kerr Smith Discussed the Legacy of His Character
Smith discussed his upcoming book, which is scheduled to be published in late 2026, in a September 2025 interview with Us Weekly.
"It's my first time writing a book, so it's a lot of work. But it's been fun to revisit everything and rewatch a lot of the episodes [of Dawson's Creek]. All those memories just start pouring back in," said Smith to the publication.
He also discussed Jack's legacy as an openly gay character. According to Smith, Dawson's Creek fans have let him know how his character has impacted them. He recalled a specific instance when a fan at "a panel in Oklahoma City" proceeded to tell "his life story." According to the actor, it was "a similar coming out [to Jack] when he was a teenager and he said he probably wouldn't even be on the planet anymore had it not been for that story line."
He said that he andJames Van Der Beek, who played Dawson Leery, became emotional while listening to the story.
"And James was sitting next to me, and we listened to him talk for five minutes, and I started tearing up a little bit, and I think James was too. And I felt James turn his head to me when he was talking, and I could sense James was thinking, 'How are you going to handle this?'" said Smith in the interview. "Without saying anything — and I didn't know what to say, I was so choked up — I just got off the stage and went down there and gave him a fat hug. That stuff happens to me all the time to this day, and every single time, I cherish it, because it just means so much."
Smith made similar comments about fans' reaction to Jack's storyline in an April 2018 interview with People, alongside his Dawson's Creek castmate, Michelle Williams, who played Jack's best friend, Jen Lindley. Smith said he was initially nervous when a fan let him know that Jack inspired him to come out to his parents. He explained that he was worried that the fan's parents would have a negative reaction.
Williams then shared that she loves when fans tell her how much Jack means to them. She said that a Dawson's Creek viewer once told her that he was able to explain his sexuality to his friends because of Smith's character.
"[The fan said] 'When I was growing up I had this best friend and everyone always said, 'you're like Dawson and Joey [played by Katie Holmes].' And when he came out he was like, 'Actually guys it's like Jack and Jen.' And they were like, 'Oh, okay. We understand what that means.' Like you gave them a cultural reference," said Williams to Smith in the People interview.
