Jess, Spencer, Alexe, Andrew, Kat, and Dale in 'Bachelor in Paradise'
Congratulations, rose lovers! We've made it to the end of Bachelor in Paradise season 10 — and in a shock to no one, the only two couples who had any business winning made it to the end and secured a hefty cash prize.
Let's recap!
The final rose ceremony
The episode picks up with Kathy and Keith — the only Golden couple left — shocking the young'uns by announcing they are sending themselves home. "For me, the money is about which couple will benefit," says Kathy. "Who needs the money the most."
Kat's all, challenge accepted! She launches into a story about being raised by a single mother. Though times were tough for them, and she had to live in a group home for a while, Kat says her mom taught her about the importance of planning for the future — which is why she became a nurse. "I just never want my kids to struggle the way I did," she adds tearfully.
This week, the men are voting for two women to go home. Dale informs Jeremy that he simply can't vote against Jess and Spencer… so he's voting for Bailey. Annoyed, Jeremy starts lobbying everyone else to vote for Kat and Dale. Will it work?
And the first two couples going home are...
Kathy and Keith on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
And
Jeremy and Bailey on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
"It's a lot of emotions," says Jeremy, who literally leans out of the frame to avoid crying on camera. Bailey is also sad, but she's happy to be leaving with Jeremy: "I can't wait for the future." And I can't wait for your breakup announcement, girl — you deserve better!
Kathy and Keith, meanwhile, are just grateful for their friendship and their time hanging out with the kids in Costa Rica. "My heart is full," says Kathy. Awww, good luck, you two Golden gems!
Relationship Test No. 1: "Weight of the World"
It's a good, old-fashioned endurance challenge, rose lovers! Each couple will be harnessed to a platform and tethered to weights. As time goes on, more weight will be added to each couple's total, which can either be evenly distributed or given to one person if his/her partner is getting tired. It's a metaphor, y'all! "Very soon, in the real world, you're gonna get faced with a lot of real-world challenges," explains host Jesse Palmer. "You've gotta lean on each other, and you may have to carry the burden if your partner needs a break." Whichever couple holds on the longest will go directly to the final round. As for the other two couples, Jesse is vague: "Your fate will be determined later tonight."
Jess, Spencer, Alexe, Andrew, Kat, and Dale compete on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
It's a fun idea. Not as fun as "The Hook Up" challenge from Bachelor Pad, but it feels like an homage.
The challenge starts with each couple holding weights that total 15 percent of their combined body weight. Slowly, production staffers add more, and by the time they get to 30 percent, Dale is struggling. Cut to:
Kat and Dale fall in the pool on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
From there, it's neck and neck between Spencer and Jess, and Alexe and Andrew. And I'll be honest, rose lovers — I did not see this coming:
Jess and Spencer lose the challenge on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
Congratulations, Alexe and Andrew!
Though Spencer says he hates losing more than he likes winning, he recovers quickly — and later that day, he tells Jess that he loves her. "I've already won so much," he says. "I'm just so grateful for you, and I love you." She says it back, and they smooch.
Jess and Spencer share a moment on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
Awww, that's so nice. You crazy kids just take your time and keep getting to know each other. There's no rush to... Wait a minute. Spencer — what are you doing???
Jesse Palmer helps Spencer choose a ring on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
Ring shopping? Bro, come ON! You haven't even agreed on a timeline for moving in yet! Jess has literally told you she's not ready for such a big step. Pump the brakes, for Pete's sake!
We'll have to put a pin in my panic, rose lovers, because it's time for...
Relationship Test No. 2: "Parliament of Paradise"
Jesse Palmer stands in front of returning contestants on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
Guess what, remaining contestants? This jury of your (in some cases very pissed off) peers is here to decide whether Alexe and Andrew should head to the finals alone — or if one other couple should join them. "If the jury votes in another couple," explains Jesse, "that means that Andrew and Alexe and that other couple will each have the chance to leave Paradise with up to $250,000."
Hey Kat and Dale, don't start packing your bags just yet! Palmer goes on to say that each of the three remaining couples will get a chance to state their case before the jury votes. "We voted out many of these couples," laments Dale. "This is probably the worst-suited situation for me. I'm not going to beg anybody for anything, but what I will do is speak to Kat and I's [sic] relationship and how far we've come."
Alexe also isn't very happy at this development. "It's one of the biggest stressors in my life! I have triple digit student loans!" she says to Parliament members Leslie and Lea. "I said, 'If I win, I would get $251,000 in my bank account!'"

Soon after the cocktail party gets going, Sean — who is still 1-800-BITTER about how his Paradise "journey" ended — interrupts and announces that he wants the jurors to have "all the information" about the remaining couples.
Sean and Allyshia steal the spotlight on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
This POS goes on to announce that he called one of Kat's exes to get dirt on her. Wow. What an absolute asshat. Anyhow, Sean accuses Kat of "stashing a laptop" so she could text her ex "love letters" from Paradise, and that generally she's not there for the Right Reasons™. Both Sean and Allyshia claim to have "receipts," but everyone sees Sean's actions for what they really are: A chance to get five more minutes of screen time.
It doesn't take long for everyone to turn on Sean and Allyshia, especially once Kat starts sobbing from anger and embarrassment. She storms off with Dale, who gently tries to get some more information from her. Like, is anything Sean said true?
"Did me and my ex still have, like, a relationship prior to this? Yes," says Kat. "Because I didn't think I was going to meet anybody here. But was I texting him while I was here? No, because I don't have my phone." That's as much as Kat is willing to say on camera. "I'm not doing this!" she huffs, waving at the cameras. "I need to calm the f--- down!"
Fair enough. Dale stands by Kat, telling the group that he knows she's a "f---ing good human being" and encouraging them to vote however they want to.
The next morning, the remaining couples pack up and prepare to leave paradise. "We might be getting engaged today, baby," Spencer tells a sleepy Jess. Um, what? So, Jess knows about this engagement nonsense? Last we saw, all they had talked about was MAYBE moving in together when their leases were up — and Jess, understandably, wasn't even ready for that! WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Once again, we'll have to wait and see what happens with these two, because THE VOTES ARE IN.
The contestants going home before the final are...
Dale and Kat leave Costa Rica on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
Makes sense. Jess and Spencer do deserve a shot at the money, after all. Speaking of which...
Relationship Test No. 3: "Love or Money?"
Jesse tempts Alexe with a bag of money on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
The couples are separated, and one by one, each contestant meets with Jesse and a giant leather duffel bag full of money. They must choose "money" or "love" — and if they choose the latter, they'll head to the VIP suite to wait for their significant other. If both choose love, says Palmer, they'll be "choosing to forgo all of the money. Love is the big prize here." If one of them chooses money, that person leaves with $250,000. It's essentially the "keep or share" challenge from Bachelor Pad — which led to the best moment in reality TV history.
Will the results here be as exciting? Survey says… No. After an interminably long wait in each case, we see that both couples chose love over money. And as many of you probably already suspected, both couples were surprised with the happy news that they'll be leaving with a random amount of cash depending on which of three envelopes they choose — $125,000 for Alexe and Andrew, and $190,000 for Jess and Spencer.
And then, as I yelled "Don't do it! Don't do it!" at my screen/into the void, this happened:
Spencer proposes to Jess on 'Bachelor in Paradise'
She said yes, because of course she did. Let's hope this one sticks, Spencer! As annoyed as I am — again, WHAT IS THE FREAKING RUSH??? — I am rooting for these two. Let's send 'em some good vibes, shall we?
According to the updates at the end of the episode, the final four couples — Jeremy and Bailey, Dale and Kat, Andrew and Alexe, and Spencer and Jess — are still together. Jeremy and Bailey are planning to move to the same city (unclear which one) "later this year"; Dale and Kat plan to "move closer" to each other and start "building a future together"; Alexe is planning to move to Chicago to be with Andrew at some point; and Jess is moving to Dallas to be with her fiancé in the new year.
With that, season 10 comes to a close. So, rose lovers, how are you feeling about the winning couples? Are you voting thumbs up or down on the BiP's new look? And will you be watching The Golden Bachelor with me when it returns on September 24th? Let me know in the comments below!
