Despite the years of surgeries that followed, the 'little blind kid' managed to do everything his friends did - and much more. Fifty years after the horrific crime - for which delusional neighbor Basilio Bousa was found not guilty on grounds of insanity - in 2021, Miele won a MacArthur 'Genius' Award for his work in making the world a more accessible place for blind and partially sighted people.
