Costco's genius hack that encourages consumers to spend more money
Costco found a way to make customers unintentionally spend more cash at the megastore. The chain's hacks - including a lack of product signage - were created by the company in part to trick customers into buying more products. PriceSmart's original founder, Robert Price, called the strategy 'manipulative' while discussing its intention on NPR's Planet Money podcast. 'I was adamant that we would not have signs telling people where things were because that would make it likely that they would wander through all the aisles and find other things to buy,' Price said.
