A POLICE officer was photographed issuing a ticket to a man riding an e-bike and was heavily criticized online when users noticed the background.

Nearly 400 users couldn't help but point out the obvious that the officer missed.

Blocking the sidewalk is illegal as it reduces access for those with disabilities[/caption]

A keen X, formerly Twitter user quoted a post from the New York Police Department's 1114th Precinct showing a police officer writing a ticket to an e-bike rider.

"Riding an e-bike? Remember, obeying VTL laws isn't just for cars," the post read.

"Don't pedal your way into a ticket!"

What seemed like an innocent post warning riders of the laws quickly turned sour as users noticed something in the background.

Eight vehicles were parked backward on the sidewalk, an action that's illegal in New York City, according to the NYC311.

Parking on the sidewalk blocks access to people with disabilities, and forces vulnerable populations to walk into a busy street.

Doing so drastically increases the chances of being struck by a passing vehicle, resulting in serious injury or death.

One vehicle was missing a license plate on the front bumper, which is also illegal, as it makes it difficult for the police to identify the driver and assess whether or not the vehicle's registration is current.

The user also pointed out the blatant "No Parking" signs that all eight drivers, and the officer, ignored to prioritize ticketing the e-bike rider.

"I've never seen a better summary of the NYPD than posting a picture of them giving a ticket to a bike when there's eight illegally parked cars behind them," their post read.

"With illegal license plates on them, too."

The post from the NYPD had over 9,000 views and 351 comments, with most of them being about the illegally parked cars behind the officer.

"Isn't it illegal for cars to park on the sidewalk like that?" asked another user.

Another user took the opportunity to be snarky about the photo.

"Who said irony is dead?"

Someone else asked if a tow truck was called.

"Was this picture taken right before you ticketed and towed away all those illegally parked sidewalk cars stealing from the public?"

This wouldn't be the first time the NYPD was in hot water when dealing with drivers who block the sidewalk.

Just eight days ago, the federal government issued an official warning to the department to stop blocking the sidewalk with marked vehicles or they'd be sued, reported AM NY.

"The sidewalks and crosswalks adjacent to NYPD precincts are subject to frequent obstructions by both the private and police vehicles of NYPD members, resulting in inaccessibility of the pedestrian grid," wrote Damian Willians, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

"The City of New York (and, more specifically, the NYPD) has failed to ensure that the pedestrian grid is 'readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities.'

"In the event we determine that we cannot secure compliance voluntarily to correct the deficiencies identified in this letter, the Attorney General may initiate a lawsuit pursuant to the ADA."
