Jaw-dropping stats from Bam Adebayo's 83-point game

Miami Heat center Bam Adebayomade NBA history on March 10 against the Washington Wizards inhis amazing 83-point performance.

It was the second-most points scored in a game in NBA history, trailing only Wilt Chamberlain's legendary 100-point effort in 1962.

As he kept piling up the points, Adebayo remained on the court deep into the fourth quarter of Miami's eventual 150-129 win, eventually surpassing the 81 points Kobe Bryant scored in 2006.

Adebayo also filled up the box score in several other categories during his 42 minutes of action. He collected nine rebounds, handed out three assists, blocked two shots and made a pair of steals.

Bills and Josh Allen agree to restructure QB's contract in salary cap-saving move, AP source says

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has agreed to restructure his contract in a move that frees up approximately $12 million in much-needed salary cap space for the team entering the NFL's new year, a person familiar with the discussions told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the discussions were to remain private. ESPN was first to report the restructuring.

The move converts $15.2 million of Allen's salary this season into a signing bonus, and comes a year afterhe signed a $330 million contract extensionthat ran through 2030.

What is essentially a move on paper for Allen is significant for the Bills because it provides general manager Brandon Beane payroll flexibility to add players as the NFL's signing period opened on Wednesday.

The Bills were projected to be about $4 million over the cap entering the day.

They were about $32 million over the cap a week ago, which led to the team releasing three players and trading cornerback Taron Johnson to Las Vegas. The team also restructured various other contracts, whilere-signing center Connor McGovernand acquiringreceiver D.J. Moore in a trade with Chicago.

Upon formally signing his four-year, $52 million contract on Tuesday, McGovern revealed that Allen played a role in bringing the two sides together.

"It doesn't hurt when you have 17 (Allen's number) in your corner," said McGovern, who was otherwise preparing to test the free agent market.

Buffalo is undergoing a transitionwith Joe Brady taking over as coach, replacing Sean McDermott, who was fired in January following nine seasons. Though the team's offense remains mostly in tact, the defense — previously overseen by McDermott — is being overhauled under new coordinator Jim Leonhard.

550-pound WWII bomb defused after thousands evacuated

An unexploded World War II bomb was successfully defused in the German city of Dresden on Wednesday, police said, after it caused a huge evacuation operation.

The 550-pound British bomb was found on Tuesday during work in the city center to rebuild a bridge over the river Elbe that collapsed in 2024.

The discovery caused officials to evacuate 18,000 people on Wednesday, the largest such operation ever in the eastern German city, emergency services said.

More than 400 police along with other emergency services were deployed, backed up by a helicopter and a drone, to check that homes, shops, schools, care homes and offices were empty inside a one-kilometre radius of the device.

Later on Wednesday afternoon, police in the city said the device had been defused.

It said in a statement that bomb disposal specialists "removed the detonator of the bomb at 3:10 pm before exploding it", while the bomb itself was also removed from the site.

The evacuation zone will be opened again once a final safety check is completed, police said.

The bomb was discovered during clearance and construction work following the partial collapse of the Carola Bridge in September 2024.

The evacuation affected major historic sites including the city's Zwinger Palace and the Frauenkirche church, as well as residential buildings, hotels and government offices.

Dresden was heavily bombed by the Allies on February 13 and 14, 1945, killing up to 25,000 people and destroying large parts of the old town known for its Baroque architecture.

World War II bombs were previously foundand defused at the bridge site in January and August 2025, with thousands of people affected each time.

Over20,000 people were evacuatedfrom central Cologne in June 2025 after three unexploded U.S. bombs from World War II were found, the biggest such operation in the city since the end of the war.

Bombs from World War II have been discovered on battlefields and cities around the world where fighting took place, often decades after the war ended. In March 2025, a World War II bombwas foundnear the tracks of Paris' Gare du Nord station. The month before that, more than 170 bombs werefoundnear a children's playground in northern England. And in October 2024, a World War II bombexplodedat a Japanese airport.

PGA Tour targets bigger fields in bigger markets as it moves closer to new model

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The PGA Tour wants to double the number of signature events and expand fields to 120 players with a 36-hole cut as it looks to overhaul its competitive model to bring the best players together on the best golf courses in big markets.

It also would lead to two tracks of tournaments — some two dozen elite events and the rest of the tournaments that would be geared toward promotion.

Missing from CEO Brian Rolapp's news conference on Wednesday were several key details, and he emphasized that nothing has been finalized.

"It is by no means a baked cake," Rolapp said. "These are simple areas we are starting to see a meaningful consensus."

This was pulling back the curtain onthe work of the Future Competition Committee, which Rolapp created in August and appointed Tiger Woods as chairman.

Rolapp spoke before more than 1,000 people at PGA Tour headquarters, all with various stakes in the game, from corporate and television partners, player managers, tournament officials and executives of other golf organizations. Hundreds of them watched from the railing on the second and third floors.

He built his presentation around six themes— a season from late January to September, 120-man fields, a big opener on the West Coast at a famous golf course, finding bigger media markets, meritocracy and a more dramatic finish to the season.

One possibility was introducing a form of match play at the Tour Championship or throughout the postseason to provide "win or go home" moments. Television partners have favored match play, though top players have questioned why golf should have stroke play all year and have a different format for the biggest prize.

Rolapp said some changes could be introduced as early as 2027, though he would not expect the finished product until 2028 at the earliest.

The push toward bigger markets — the PGA Tour is not consistently in New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington, San Francisco and Philadelphia — and a splashy start to the season have been in the works for months.

The key element from this early look was the 120-man fields and the 36-hole cut. The $20 million signature events currently have 72 players (80 at Pebble Beach), and only three have cuts.

Rolapp said he envisions a schedule of 21 to 26 tournaments for the top players — as many as 16 signature events, The Players Championship, four majors and the three postseason events.

"We will have a second track of PGA Tour tournaments, which will ladder up to the elevated events," which would run concurrently with the season, he said.

Rolapp leaned on the word "scarcity" when he first presented his vision in August. He said Wednesday that was not about the number of tournaments on the schedule but rather making every tournament matter.

Key to the overhaul is a form of promotion and regulation between the two tracks.

"What we envision is a merit-based system that leans into what makes professional golf so compelling — players earning their way to the top, with every event having greater meaning," he said. "The message is pretty simple: Play well and you earn the opportunity to compete in our biggest events and for more money."

Such a plan likely would do away with the need for players to have the chance to earn their way into signature events during the year because the fields already are 120 players.

As for going to bigger markets, Rolapp said moving current tournaments or creating new ones are both possibilities. The touradded a new signature this year at Trump Doralin Miami, for example.

Rolapp has been driven by what makes the tour better, which is why he created a program that allowed five-time majorBrooks Koepka to return from LIV Golf. Still to be determined is what kind of media rights deal golf can strike, even with a current deal that runs through 2030.

He said the U.S. media market and rights fees is $30 billion. The NFL has $12 billion of that and Rolapp said, "They have made their public intentions clear they would like to double that."

"So if you start doing that math and you're anyone other than the National Football League, you start to ask yourself the questions," he said. "Next time I go to the media market, how do I make sure I have the most compelling product for fans and for our media partners so that we can compete in what is a very complicated media ecosystem that's changing all the time?

"It's a very dynamic time in media," he said. "If you are in the sports business, it behooves you to put your house in order as much as possible. That is a significant part of the work that the Future Competition Committee is doing, and it's one of the reasons why it's so important."

Rolapp also said it recently made a proposal to extend its relationship with the European tour, and that international tournaments are under consideration in the summer and the fall.
